Een index-getal boven de 50 wijst op economische groei, een getal onder de 50 op economische krimp.
De indices van het Institute for Supply Management - ISM (zie Wikipedia) wordt beschouwd als een goede voorspellers van de beurskoersen in de USA.
Er is een index for manifacturing en een index for non-manifacturing
Voor mij is het onduidelijk wat het verschil is tussen het bovenstaande en het onderstaand (wordt vervolgd).
Er is ook een Purchasing Managers Index - PMI (zie Wikipedia), zowel voor bedrijven in als buiten de verwerkende industrie.

The Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) is an indicator produced by Markit Group and the Institute for Supply Management of financial activity reflecting purchasing managers' acquisition of goods and services.

The headline manufacturing PMI is a composite of five of the survey indices. These are New orders, Output, Employment, Suppliers' delivery times (inverted) and Stocks of purchases. The ISM attributes each of these variables the same weighting when calculating the overall PMI, whereas Markit uses the following weights: New orders (0.3), Output (0.25), Employment (0.2), Suppliers' Delivery Times (0.15), Stocks of purchases (0.1).Laatste berichten:
